Your Help Needed to Elect WCCCD Board of Trustees Candidates!

Dear AFT Local 2000 Members,

There are under three weeks left until the November 8th election.

Our local has endorsed three new candidates for WCCCD Board of Trustees,

Scott Holiday in District 4, Marla Edwards-Wheeler in District 6 and Patrick Kelley in District 7. They are all working hard to win their elections. And, they all face active competition. We need to make sure these pro-educator candidates win.

If EACH of us does ONE of the three things below, we will make it happen!

  1. Join Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan at a fundraiser next Tuesday, October 25 at 5:30pm at the Detroit Association of Black Organizations, 12048 Grand River Avenue, Detroit. $20 donation is requested, but everyone is welcome to attend and any donation is appreciated. We need a large turnout for this fundraiser.  (We apologize for the short notice, which was due to finalizing the location.) Please spread the word and get as many people as you can to come.

Donations by check can also be sent directly to the candidates at

  1. We are contacting voters by phone with a quick request to vote for our candidates. Voters appreciate hearing from educators on this election.  We are calling Tuesday through Sunday 11am-8pm.  You can make calls whenever it is convenient for you. To schedule to join the phone bank, please email or call Moe Fitzsimons at moefitzsimons@gmail.com or 734-604-6030.
  1. Finally, the candidates are also engaging voters at the polls on Election Day. If you can spend 2-3 hours at a poll greeting voters and encouraging them to vote their entire ballots, and for our candidates, that might make the difference in us seating three new, pro-educator trustees this year.

Please contact Moe at above information if you are willing to greet voters at the polls.

Think of how different our contract negotiations and enforcement will be when we seat Board of Trustee members that are willing to challenge business as usual at WCCCD.  Join one of the three activities above and let’s win!

In Solidarity,

Joanne Wittbrodt,

President, AFT 2000
